Meow Meow Meow

The first Internet Cat Video Festival was proposed as a joke by a young program associate at Minneapolis' Walker Art Center. The event drew over 10,000 fans. Today, 6,000 are expected to gather at the Great Wall of Oakland for a screening of Walker's 2013 program during the OakCatVidFest, which includes a full day of live music, crafts, SPCA adoptions, and aerial dance duets by Bandaloop. But, perhaps, a family-friendly carnival where everyone is painted up like Grumpy Cat, wearing Henri, le Chat Noir T-shirts, and humming the relentlessly chipper Nyan Cat theme song is not your idea of fun. Since 15 percent of all Internet traffic is delivered on paddy paws, there are bound to be outliers. The San Francisco Intergalactic Feline Film and Video Festival for Humans is for you. Focusing on new directors, emerging stars, and adult cocktails, SFIFFVFH offers discerning kitty-cinema connoisseurs original content, as well as a historic look at cat movies, including Maya Deren's seminal 1944 reflection on her pets' offspring. Lil Bub, the eternal kitten with the big tongue, will be on hand to deliver her inaugural award.
